Great Pictures -- Thank you Sam!!

Alan and I forgot our camera on our way to the hospital and so didn't take any pictures from North's first few days of life--thankfully grandparents stopped by and snapped some that they've passed on and our great friends Sam, Levi, and Lincoln did as well.
As a professional photographer, Sam's pictures are of course AMAZING and way better than any Alan and I would have taken even if we'd spent the entire stay snapping like crazy. I was awed by the fact that she got such good photos on her visit--she snapped them so quickly and their visit happened after a power outage at the hospital killed the air-conditioning to our room, making the place about 100 degrees--North was screaming and bright red the entire time--She is so talented!!!

And of course, North's future best-pal and band-mate Lincoln.
Isn't he the cutest?

A funny picture

I thought that this picture was funny and worth sharing. Alan looks suspicious and North looks surprised/worried. I thought it was cute.

Visits with the grandmothers and first real bath!

Today North got to visit with both Nana and grandma Harsh, who both happened to be in Terre Haute for other appointments, and stopped by to give North some love while in town. Lots of fun was to be had staring and laying around on the quilt from North's great-grandmother Milner (Mimi).

Yes, every picture above also includes a cell phone. There was lots of snapping pictures with cell phones going on too.

Also today, we finally gave North his first REAL (as in not of the "sponge" variety) bath. We had been waiting for the gross umbilical stump to fall off. Then we were waiting for the goo left behind after the stump fell off to disappear as well. Then we couldn't seem to find time to get the bathtub out, assembled, and filled with the necessary batteries so that the little shower part would work. Finally today, we did it though. Turns out, he really likes baths--it was great.

Alan of course had to give him the wet hair mohawk

Goble Family

Last Saturday, North got to meet his great-grandmother Huff (also "G.G.") at a dinner for the Goble family in Nashville, IN. The dinner celebrated "G.G." Huff's late brother, George Goble.
At the dinner, North got to meet not only G.G. but a number of other relatives as well.

Yes, North is wearing a striped shirt and plaid shorts--he made a bit of a mess of the shirt he was originally wearing before we arrived.

Happy no more gross stump day!

North finally lost the gross umbilical stump! Hooray!

Poor Grandma Harsh gave North a hug and ended up with it on her shirt--then she changed into a new shirt and he peed on her (and me and himself).
Good thing she loves him so much--he left lots of "souvenirs" for her on his trip to Indianapolis today.

First Father's Day

We had such a fun father's day weekend (and Monday) getting to share North with all the fathers and grandfathers in our life.

On Saturday North got to meet his great-grandfather "Papa" and great-grandmother "Gigi" for the first time. He also got to see his grandma and grandpa Harsh who can't seem to get enough of him. Gigi was sick with a cold and so took lots of extra-precautions to make sure that she didn't get him sick--still they got to snuggle for a bit which was great to see.

Then we got to celebrate our first father's day in our new little family. North got Alan a Playstation 3. It was a big hit.

Unwrapped! Happy daddy.

Soon, Alan was playing and North was napping.

Ender joined in on the napping.

Then of course, North had to play with the Playstation.

Then, today we got to celebrate father's day with the Milners. North got to see his Nana and Grand-dad (who also can't seem to get enough of him) and had a great time getting to meet Aunt Angie and Uncle Adam (who just got back from Europe) and cousins Connor and Madi.

Then everyone gathered round to say hello!

Time with the cousins and Aunt Angie (while Adam and Alan put up a tent for Connor and Madi to camp out in)

Laying on a hammock with Connor (he's such a good older cousin!)

The tent! Too bad North isn't yet old enough to camp out-- Connor and Madi sure seemed to like it.
Connor did offer to feed North every 2 hours if I let him camp out-- his suggestion was cheeseburgers--he wasn't impressed when I had to tell him that North doesn't yet have teeth. Perhaps in a few years....

Funny faces from the tent windows.

Welcome to North's Blog!

I've been lax about getting pictures of North onto a computer so that they could be shared--we forgot to bring our camera to the hospital and then I was just pokey about getting them from the camera to the computer once we got home and snapped some. Finally have a few uploaded though and wanted to share our exciting news of North's arrival and pictures of our new baby boy with friends and family.

North was born by c-section in the wee hours of the morning on June 2, 2008. He weighed 9 pounds 9 ounces at birth and was 21 1/2 inches long.

Alan and I could not be happier. We are having a great time getting to know our new baby boy.

It's been an exciting couple of weeks here (long labor plus a few complications during and after delivery--North was born with a 104 fever and wacky white blood cell count and I got stomach acid in my lungs when they intubated me to knock me out during the c-section). A few days of antibiotics for both of us and we were feeling great and ready to come home though.

When Alan went to get the car to pick us up and take us home it turns out that someone had broken into our new car in the hospital parking garage and vandalized it. The hospital loaned us a new baby seat (North's was covered in glass) and some plastic to tape over our missing windows and we finally made it home. The jeep is now in the shop and will hopefully be back to new in no time.

Then some massive flooding of the neighborhood and all surrounding roads left us holed up in our house for few days (which thankfully stayed dry as a bone) and gave Alan, me, North, and the dog and cat a chance to snuggle in and bond.

Now the roads are once again clear (mostly) and we are all doing great and having a wonderful time settling into a routine.

Thanks to everyone for all of the support and well wishes.

I'll post again with more pictures and news when I get a chance.
